so i met up w/ my friend from my last church...and here are some thoughts
they are really works oriented as opposed to relationship centered but they just might not know otherwise, obligation driven instead of out of an abundance of grace and love...i mean i was w/ them for 2 whole years, led small groups, bible studies, sunday school but never felt connected, opened up to, close...when on the other hand, im w/ this new church now, less than 3 months since ive been regularly attending and i have grown SO much, we have gotten to know each other SO much, our bonds are SO rich and tight, it is truly polar opposites...but you know im at a point where its like that church IS for people like that, just the whole organization of it all, the politics, the council, whatever that means defines the group...well, supposedly the new pastor is coming starting as of the 2nd week in oct so im at least curious to go check it out especially after since my friend was pushing hard on me going there again as he said that all the guys that were in my sunday school class are now in key leadership positions at the church...interesting
they are truly different breeds.
the last pastor was so into "leadership", so driven, but for what? his idea of a leader was a very top-down managemental style of leadership which is ok if you want to build an organization set to do tasks...but i dont think thats what Jesus came to do, he didnt come to create an organization, he came to show us how to build relationships, that is at the heart of the trinity, the heart of who Jesus is...and there will always be people that look to that sort of person but it will create a very hollow organization of have tos and shoulds instead of want to and can.
but if its true that you can learn from any situation, thats what i learned. you learn the good by seeing the bad and you get to appreciate the good that much more. i can now objectively look at them, what they are doing and still want to help them out just b/c theyre so off the mark but can let it go and be thankful for what God has given me!
