This past Wednesday was the fireworks show at Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. It's the biggest lake in Japan and since it was the first time to go there, we figured we'd get there a bit early and scope out the area.

You know you're serious when you bring your own tarp and get rocks to secure the tarp from blowing away. Here's Dan writing our name on the tarp. Even when we got there at 2, the area was almost filled w/ tarps.

We got off at Otsu and it seemed like the hub city for this area.

So after checking out the area, we returned to our spot...only to find this other couple sitting where our tarp should have been. And where was our tarp? It was conveniently tucked under this other group's tarp. So we, in our nicest Christian way, asked them if they knew what happened to our tarp and they completely denied anything happening and ignored us the whole time (they had guilty written all over their faces!). And so, Dan and I just hovered over them as we decided what to do. I mean by this time all the places are taken. There was not much we could do. BUT THEN! This family on the tarp next to us must have caught wind of what was going on and felt sorry for us and asked us if we wanted to join them!

They were so nice!
We hung out w/ the kids and soon the dads came after they finished work and we all had a wonderful time (on a bigger tarp to boot!).
And check out the fireworks!
Since they launch the fireworks off the lake, they pretty much launch them in whatever direction they want. And it was AWESOME!
They literally light them off right on the lake.
Even though this event only had 10,000 fireworks, it was so much better than the PL fireworks. The family definitely made the difference as well.
